  • April on the Ogeechee

    By Angus McLeod | April 1, 2008

The winds of March are gone for the most part, and the weather is a lot warmer with days in the 80’s. Spring is here. Our Eagles are packing up to go North, and the marsh grass is turning green. This is the last chance ‘til fall to catch a large Striped Bass. Soon they will leave for cooler waters.

snake.jpgOur local animals are very active especially reptiles. I have already encountered two
snakes in my yard, a common rat snake and a milk snake, both harmless, both hunting
rodents along the river’s edge. A few years back I found a Rainbow snake in my back
yard. These beautiful harmless snakes can be found in our local waters, They only
come out at night and eat eels. They can be found in black water swamps and in our brackish water streams.

The color of a Rainbow snake can only be described as bubble-gum pink. These strong snakes will not bite you, and if you scare them they roll over and play dead.

компютриMake sure you read the next issue of Richmond Hill Reflections coming out the last of April. I have an article on Trapper Jack, Jack Douglas, the alligator man!

My New Home in The Hill

    By jbanks | March 14, 2008

I’ve only been in Richmond Hill for a short time and it already feels like home. Moving here from New York City has been a little bit of a culture shock, no one’s pushing up against me in the subway and everyone says hello, now that’s something I could get used to! I’m still trying to get my bearings and discovering that The Hill is a lot bigger than it looks. So I’ll apologize in advance if I walk past you and don’t say hello, I’m still getting New York out of my system!

April mentioned that I’m a Holistic Health Counselor so I thought I should expand on that just a little. In a nutshell I create personalized whole food based programs for people who want to get healthier, for some that means lowering blood pressure or cholesterol, avoiding diabetes, healing the symptoms of reproductive disorders or just having more energy and creating a more balanced life. With that being said I’ll add that this field is my passion, it’s what I business card credit processing smallbank card credit direct merchant payment, bank card credit direct merchant, bank card credit direct merchant nabest reward credit cardgreen dot prepaid credit cardcalculator card consolidation creditcredit card balance transfer offercard comparison consolidate credit debtbank card credit orchard unsecuredcapitol card credit one payment, hsbc credit card payment, credit card paymentcard credit offer visaaccount card credit merchant processingbusiness credit card online applicationcard credit payment searsuk cashback credit cardbank card credit monogramcard credit debt help onlinebank card credit merricksmall business credit card applicationcredit card free balance transfercard credit debt help payapply card credit ukbusiness credit card consolidationcapital one unsecured credit card bad credit, bad credit master card, bad credit credit cardcard credit merchant service wireless, credit card payment service, credit card servicescredit card debt counselingvisa reward credit card, card credit point reward visacard consolidation credit debt loancard credit number validcard credit debt help karenbank card credit login orchardchase bank credit card, chase bank credit card paymentcard credit machine wireless, wireless credit card machinebad card credit credit studentbad card creditjuniper bank credit cardapproval canada card credit instantorchard bank credit card logincanadian visa credit card applicationcard consolidation credit ukassociate citibank credit cardcard credit hsbc philippinehsbc credit card philippineshell gas credit cardmbna credit card loginapplication canadian card credit visaciti bank credit cardcard chase credit online paymentcard credit free online, card credit free online processing, free online credit cardapplication card credit instant onlineamerica bank card credit worldpoints, bank of america credit card, bank of america credit card sign in read about, research and preach so I’ll try to keep you up to date on any new and interesting information I find that will help you live a healthier life.

    Introducing Jacqueline

    By April | March 14, 2008

Jacqueline BanksThe best thing about this blog is the people I get to meet and the conversations those meetings create. The most recent of these is Jacqueline Banks.

Jacqueline is brand new to The Hill. Her husband is a medic deployed to Iraq and stationed at Ft. Stewart. She grew up in the Dominican Republic and lived in New York before arriving here.

Jacqueline is a Holistic Health Counselor qualified in a variety of fields. What does all that mean? Well, I am going to leave that explanation up to the expert. I will say that talking with her made for the best cup of coffee I have had in a while.

I enjoyed talking to her. She has a positive outlook, a great ear for listening and an easy style to her writing. I look forward to her contributions her and to the different conversations she will spark. Be on the lookout for her first post coming very soon and make sure to say, “Hello!”

    Welcome Jacqueline!

    Drinks on Sunday

    By April | March 13, 2008

In case you missed it in yesterday’s edition of Bryan County News, there has been a referendum submitted to the city. The measure would allow eateries in town to serve alcohol on Sundays - not the bars or the package stores - but places where you go to eat.

The measure was proposed by the owner of Molly McPherson’s and supported by most of the related businesses.

I would be interested to hear how you feel about it or if you have any questions related to the proposal.

March: A Great Time To Explore The Ogeechee

    By Angus McLeod | March 1, 2008

Make sure to read more of Angus’ great observations in the Richmond Hill Reflections Magazine.

Soon it will be time to get your boat ready for the annual boating journey to St. Catherine’s Island for the Memorial Day weekend which isn’t that far away. Why not get out before this for an early spring adventure on the Ogeechee?

    Alligator on the Ogeechee River

March is the month to experience this wonderful river without jet skies, insects, excess heat or lots of other boaters. One thing you can expect to see on a warm March day are big alligators basking in the warm sunlight. These cold blooded reptiles are just warming up from hibernation and can be seen all along the river’s edge on the Chatham County side of the river.

Another is the American Bald Eagles who have not made their spring migration to the North yet, so they can still be seen from Ft. McAllister to the Ford Plantation Marina. There are nests between Cape Hardwick and Mill Run, and another active nest is located near Val Ambrosia Canal.

Osprey on the OgeecheeOsprey can be seen all along the river, getting their nests ready for the spring hatch. Eagles and osprey don’t get along and for good reason! You may be able to watch an eagle attack an osprey in mid air, causing the osprey to drop its just caught fish. After the attack the eagle will sweep down and catch the osprey’s dinner just before it hits the surface of the Ogeechee.

Otters are still in our waters. When passing a ditch or canal travel slowly and keep your
eyes open. I doubt you will see any of the hundreds of wild hogs hiding in the marsh
grass along the river’s edge, but if you cut your engine and drift you may be able to hear them and many of the other sounds of the marsh.

You owe it to yourself to take time to smell the marsh mud and watch the tide turn on a
warm spring day on the Ogeechee.

Welcome Angus McLeod to Blogging Richmond Hill

    By April | February 22, 2008

Angus McLeodI am thrilled to introduce to you someone you probably already know.

Angus McLeod married up when Mrs. Gretchen said yes and was blessed when he became a father twice. He is an active member of the community and is a Realtor at Re/Max Accent.

He is a regular contributor for Richmond Hill Reflections Magazine and I am going to bring him online. I enjoy my conversations with Angus and I am betting you will too.

Starting March 1st, Angus will bring us visions of the Ogeechee. I have seen the first post and the pictures that go with it. If the natural beauty of coastal Georgia is one of the reason you live in Richmond Hill, these pictures will certainly appeal to you.

And who knows - he may have more to say if we ask him the right questions.

    By April | February 19, 2008

So Many Angels is a local non-profit created to help wage war against Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Our community was blessed with angels, Skylar and Cassidy, in 1997. They were diagnosed with SMA and their family and their community rallied around them.

You can find more information about SMA Angels by visiting their website.

After you do that, show your support at the SMA Yard Sale on Saturday, March 1st, at the Ford Plaza in Richmond Hill.

    Show Me Richmond Hill

    By April | February 13, 2008

In case you haven’t heard, there is an initiative brought about by private business owners in the area to promote Richmond Hill as a community. If this idea is new to you, don’t worry - you can catch up on the skinny here.

In the interest of full disclosure, I have agreed to be a member of the interim board. Why? Well, first I think the idea is sound and second I think I can be a useful party in looking at the particulars - not to mention associating with the other phenom folks on the committee.

If you want to check out the actual marketing plan from Robertson and Markowitz, participate, or just see what it is all about, meet us at Glazer’s at 4:30PM, Tuesday, February 19th.
