So says Derek Frazier, cPT, owner, and instructor of You Need Fitness. And all evidence says he means it.

The Mayor was on hand yesterday to support Derek and his wife Angela during the Grand Opening. Mr. Davis had encouraging words for the Fraziers and all of Richmond Hill small business owners and their patrons. He praised those who went out and opened their own business and commented on the wonderful growth happening in our city.

He took a moment to recognize the accomplishment the Chamber of Commerce has achieve with the entrepreneurial friendly designation.

Derek is serious about fitness. Kettle bells, bootcamp, a downloadable ebook – he is covering all the bases.

Sore after workout? Angela is a certified massage therapist.

Not sure if this is for you? Derek seems to have though of that too. He has incorporated a wealth of information on his website – both for the gym and his bootcamp program.

Derek also continues to inform and inspire through his newsletter. You can go take a peek here.

Got a minute? Stop by and say hello. You Need Fitness is located at 2558 Highway 17 South – just across the street from the Chamber Office. All of their contact information is listed here.

I learned everything I Need to Know about School Traffic in Kindergarten

August 16, 2007

It is that time of year again. Now that school is back in session, the traffic has picked up considerably. As a Mainstreet resident and the mommy of two school age children (one who is too young to walk), I brave that traffic pattern everyday. Usually it’s not so bad because most people remember the things they learned in kindergarten.

Big yellow buses are COOL! – Therefore they always have the right of way. While our children are precious to us, these brave men and women are responsible for a far larger number of children. The schedules already run tight. Give them a break and let them in.

No hitting – There are many children who walk or ride their bikes to school. Look out for these little guys. They are still learning the ways of the world and the road. We can’t expect them to look out for us.

Taking turns is a good thing – Traffic flows much better when folks take turns at intersections. Letting a car in at each will make you late only if you were running late in the first place. Even then, it’s not going to make you that much later.

If everyone stands in the door, nobody can get in or out- This is especially true at the Primary School. Some parents need to make a left hand turn to get to the Elementary school. It’s a good idea to let them out. If you don’t nobody is dropping off their kid because the line is backed up.

Work time is not talk time- Bad traffic is made worse when folks aren’t paying attention. Few things are worse that trying to follow the previous two rules and the benefactor doesn’t notice because their cell phone, notepad, coffee, newspaper, crossword puzzle, just can’t wait.

Behavior is a grade on your report card- Richmond Hill is full of small business owners. Many of these folks have their name and their business somewhere on their vehicles. I love this because I love to do business locally if I have the opportunity. In support of these successful people, a small reminder that your courteous behavior in traffic is a direct reflection on your business.

These are the things I notice most often. Can you think of any more?

New BNI chapter in the works

August 2, 2007

I had the awesome opportunity to attend the start up meeting of a new BNI (Business Network International) chapter forming up in the area. Clyde Usher of Applied Insight Management was kind enough to extend me an invitation.

BNI chapters focus on assisting area business people in creating a referral based business.

Allen Edwards, President of Hi Q Networking, is currently a member of the only other chapter in Savannah. As BNI only allows for one member from each particular business category, he understands the need for a new chapter so that others (such as myself) can participate.

The meetings are held weekly. We have currently set the time for 11:30 on Wednesdays. Allen is looking into procuring the Shoney’s at the interchange of Hwy 204 and I-95. If that changes, it will be posted.

Spots for the business category are filled on a “first come, first serve” basis. If you are interested in joining, attending, or asking more questions, just drop an email.

For those unacquainted with BNI, you can find more information on the website.
